The COVID-19 outbreak was something that honestly took me by surprise (and probably many others too). At first, it didn't seem as though Malaysia would go into lockdown- or that schools would close down but eventually, that's exactly what happened.
Now let me be honest, I spent the first few days playing video games and Netflixing. I mean, I was supposed to have my AS exams and those got cancelled too– so the question was why not? I knew we weren't going to get another 3 months off school anytime soon. But that's when it hit me– why not use this time to actually do something productive?
Don't get me wrong, I was definitely going to keep playing video games and watching movies, but having some sort of balance is really important. I could already see my sleep schedule deteriorating as online school started at 9 am– and if getting 8 hours sleep was all I needed then sleeping at 12 would work too.
So I started by brainstorming ideas and eventually I ended up creating a website called Staying In. I realised that so many others like me had light ideas of what they wanted to spend their time doing but weren't motivated enough to go ahead with it. My website makes this so much easier by linking them to various different apps, videos and websites that can help them get straight into whatever it is that they want to do.
I've even split up all the different activities into four different categories, making it simpler for people to decide what they want to do and what suits them the most.
As well as this, there's also a blog page where people (even you) can post (after filling up a verified blogger form on the home page) about what they've been doing whilst at home. This has created a really positive and inspirational aura around the idea of staying home and it's something I find very uplifting. It's just so beautiful to see how people can come together as a community in times of need.
I really hope you take a look at the website (perhaps there's something there that you might find useful too). Either way, I hope you all are staying safe, healthy and kind to yourself and others! Have a great day.
